Nan excelled as a swimmer while she attended R.A. Long in her sophomore year as a member of the only girls team in the history of the school to win the league title.  Individually that year Nan took first place at District in the breast stroke and went on to the State Tournament.  At the State Tournament she again excelled taking 2nd place in the 100 freestyle and 2nd place in the 50 freestyle.  Due to her father’s employment transfer Nan did not return to R.A. Long and had to transfer to Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington.  While at Newport High School she was captain of the girls swim team the year they earned the State Championship and she graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1973.  Nan went on to attend Stanford University and was on the Varsity swim and soccer teams, earning a Block S award for four years of varsity sports.  Achieved All American distinction in 1974 and 1975 in 50 free and medley relays.  She joined a group of women athletes that was instrumental in pushing Stanford to comply with Title IX.  After graduating from Stanford University, Nan continues to participate in master and competitive swimming and soccer teams and has coached several girls soccer teams in Marin County, California.  Nan resides in Oakland, California.  Nan earned a degree in Human Biology with a minor in Ancient Greek.  Her work for the last 30 years is a variety of consulting projects where she would represent people and groups before local government, as advocate for the underdog in court hearings as a researcher and an expert witness.  She helps environmental nonprofits with operations, communications and fundraising.  Nan’s parents are Otto and Nancy she has 2 sisters and a brother, her only child is a daughter Erin McClung.
