Mike Polis was born and raised in Longview, his parents were Jim and Antoinette, and he has a brother John. He lettered in football all three years at R.A. Long, was the quarterback on the undefeated 1967 football team and was also inducted into the Hall of Fame as a member of that team. Mike also lettered in Basketball and was the starting point guard his junior and senior years, His senior year the basketball team had a successful winning season, part of that winning season was breaking the 11 year jinx by beating Kelso on their home court- Mike made an average of 16.2 points per game his senior year. Was named to the 2nd team All Conference and was the Team Captain. He was also a three year letterman in baseball. Mike went on to LCC to play basketball and baseball, he lettered in both sports in 1969 and 1970.  He was the basketball Team Captain his sophomore year, that team was the state runner-up that year and Mike was named to the second team All State Tourney. The baseball team was the State Champion runner-ups his freshman year and were the State Champions his sophomore year. Mike went on to attend Central Washington State College and lettered in both basketball and baseball his junior and senior years. He was named to the 1$ Team All Pacific Northwest Tournament (NAIA) for baseball his senior year. Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Central (CWSC) and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Portland.  Mike was head basketball coach at LCC from 1980 to 1989, and then was head basketball and baseball coach at R.A. Long. He spent time as head baseball coach at Omak High School and assistant basketball coach at Omak High School. He coached 2 Babe Ruth baseball teams in the World Series. Mike also played major league fast pitch for over 25 years, playing for teams out of Longview, Portland, Yakima and Seattle. He participated in 7 International Softball Congress (lSC) world tournaments all over the U.S. Mike and his wife live in Longview and have raised two sons and a daughter.
