Larry Rhodes was one of the most outstanding football players to graduate from R.A. Long. He earned a varsity letter in football all three years at the high school, and was Co-Captain his senior year. Larry was named to the All Conference Team and the Al1 State Team his senior year. He played in the All State Team versus the Tri-Cities Team in Spokane in 1951, the All State team won 32 - 14. Larry went on to attend the University of Washington on a full athletic scholarship. He lettered 3 of the years while attending UW his freshman, junior and senior years. He was a starter in all 10 games of his senior year and he was named Co-Captain of the Homecoming Game that year. Larry received the Flaherty Award, an inspirational award, that was voted on by his teammates his senior year. Larry graduated from UW in 1957 with a B.A. in Economics, While attending a campus interview, he took a position as a trainee with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Seattle, in Retreading and Sales. From 1957 to 1959 he worked in Long Beach, California, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Reno, Nevada and Oakland, California. In 1959, Larry accepted a position with an independent company in San Francisco, and managed a store in Sunnyvale, California for three years. In 1964 Larry started his own company, Five Point Tire imports. For forty years, he was in the same location on El Camino Real Blvd. in Redwood City, California, Larry recenTly sold the business to an employee, but continues to work and be a part of the business. He implemented an exchange program with local high schools for work experience in tire service and mechanical car service.  Larry has two sons Ryan and Christian, and a daughter Gretchen. He and his wife Liz have a blended family of 6 children, 10 grandchildren with one more on the way. Larry feels privileged to live a good life, filled with family, blessings and good health.
