Jim Karnofski was one of those students who seemed to be active in everything, while he attended R.A. Long.  He was his sophomore class president, was the boys club president his senior year, participated in the All School Play, was part of the Oceanography Club, Latin Club and the list goes on and on.  Jim is remembered most for his participation in football and baseball, he earned a varsity letter all three years in both sports.  He was football co-captain his senior year and picked for All Conference that same year.  They all shed a lot of blood, sweat and tears during that football season.  Through thick and thin the spirit of the fans sustained them, that year.  Jim was one of those baseball players who put his heart and soul into the game and was considered a leader by the rest of his teammates.  The team nicknamed him “Mr. Hustle”, because he was so quick.  After high school Jim went on to Lower Columbia College and started on the baseball team of 1972, that became the League Champions.  Jim lettered in baseball that year along with a couple of others who became pro’s, Hank Jones and Rick Sweet.  Jim went on to the University of Washington to get his B.S. in Microbiology in 1975, then to Columbia University for his BSN in Nursing in 1977 and finally achieving his MBA in 1990 from City University.  He worked for 30 years as an RN specializing in trauma and administration. After that he went into the field of sustainable food production through the creation of fertile soils using biochar-mineral augmented organic soil.  He is an instructor for Vincent Finelli’s usaprepares.com radio program on sustainable living through production of nutrient dense vegetables.
