Howard had a distinguished sports career while attending R.A. Long High School. He earned varsity letters in three sports; football 3 years; track 3 years and wrestling 1 year.  In his junior year he was named to the S.W. Conference All-Star 2nd team and was a S.W. Washington All Star.  In his senior year he was Co-Captain of the 1952 Championship football team.  Again he was named a S.W. Conference All-Star and a S.W. Washington All Star.  Howard was chosen to represent Longview in an All-Star game and was nominated for participation in the National East-West All-Star game.  He was also named to Wigwam Wisemen of America’s NHS All-American Football Team.  Howard went on to Lower Columbia College after high school, while there he played football 2 years, was co-captain and named to the 2nd team all conference. He also participated in track while there competing in the shot-put and discus.  After attending L.C.C. Howard went on to the University of Washington where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Education.  Howard taught Industrial Arts and was assistant coach in football and wrestling at Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines, Washington.  He left the field of education to become Vice President and GM of Amadon Forge and Machine Works in Longview from 1967 until he retired in 1982.  Howard and his wife Delores have been married 61 years and raised their three children; Mike, Steve and Lisa.  Howard and Delores currently spend most of their time living in Arizona.
