Don played varsity baseball and football all three years of high school He was the starting quarterback on the school’s 1965 SWW Conference Champion football team and was named to the All Conference 1st team. He was named to the All District football team in 1965 and 1966. He excelled in baseball as well as a pitcher and was named to the All Conference team in 1966 and 1967. He was named R.A. Long Athlete of the Year for 1967. Don went on to Grays Harbor J.C. after high school and played both football and baseball there for two years. The football team made All Conference on of the years and the baseball team made All Conference both years. He was named Athlete of the Year for Grays Harbor J.C. in 1969 and the baseball team won the Conference that year. Don was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cincinnati Reds and the fourth Board draft choice by the N.Y. Yankees in 1969. He had a major league contract in 1972 and 1973 but left baseball all together in 1978. Don went to work in the oil business and worked for Enron in marketing and then became President of Trammo Petroleum. He has recently come out of semi-retirement to start a new company, Republic Gethering and Marketing.
