Don lettered in track all three years he attended R.A. Long, competed in the state tournament his junior year he received a special award for the 440 relay.  He was active in the Latin Club, was on the Boys Club Cabinet, and voted the Best Dressed by his fellow classmates, his senior year.  After high school Don went to Lower Columbia College and while there was on the track team and competed at the State Tournament in the 2 mile run.  Earning a higher education was something Don had to work for, so while he was attending LCC he drove a school but and worked alternating shifts at Weyerhaeuser, plus found time to run marathons.  After earning his Associate’s Degree from LCC, Don went on to Central Washington University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  From 1963 to 1966 Don taught school in Ellensburg and Olympia then moved to Portland to teach and enrolled in Lewis and Clark College with the goal to earn a Doctorate of Jurisprudence (Doctor of Juris) and to become an attorney.  In 1970 after graduating from Lewis and Clark, Don accepted a position with the law firm of Studley and Purcell.  Then in 1972 he partnered with Wayne Roethler to open the firm of Roethler and McCulloch.  Don stayed in that partnership until 1980 at which time he became a Superior Court Judge for Cowlitz County until his retirement in 2002.  Over the years Don has received numerous accolades for his dedication to his position as Superior Court Judge.  A few of     those awards are as follows; LCC Distinguished Alumni, on the Governors Commission of Juvenile Justice, was also asked to be on the Board of Organization for A Child’s Place.  Don also has several organizations that he has been involved in on a personal basis such as; Supervisor-Vice-president/Liason of CASA Judicial, on the DAPC board of directors,  President of the Cowlitz County Board of Mental Health.  He served as Educator of Community Events by request of the city and the schools.  Past Deacon of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, a Meals on Wheels volunteer and has also been a guest speaker on KLTV several times. Until recently Don has been an active runner running the lake nearly everyday and participating in many marathons.  Don and his wife Marlene have been married 50 plus years and have 3 daughters.
