Jerry Sells was born and raised in Longview spending the first 18 years of his life attending local grade schools and graduating from R.A. Long High School in 1955. Jerry was a member of the Honor Society at R.A. Long and was also one of the class commencement speakers with the topic being “Youth Meets the Challenge”. After high school Jerry headed off to college attending Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma from 1955 to 1959 where he graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. Jerry then attended the University of Washington Medical School from 1959 to 1963 graduating with an M.D. He spent his Internship at the University of Oregon hospitals and clinics in Portland from 1963 – 1964. His residency was at the University of Washington, 1966 – 1967 and his Pediatrics residency 1968 – 1969. His fellowship at University of Washington, Department of Pediatrics, Handicapped Children, 1969 – 1970. Jerry spent two years 1964 – 1966 working for the Public Health Service as Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with Communicable Disease Center in Omaha, Nebraska, this served as credit for his military commitment. He has had many honors bestowed upon him, such as Special Award Recognition, King County Association for Retarded Citizens, 1978; Associate Commissioner’s Citation, Social Security Administration 1992; Professor Emeritus, Pediatrics, Oregon Health & Science University, 2002 and was nominated for 1980 University of Washington School of Medicine Medical Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus Award. Jerry has held faculty positions with the Department of Pediatrics at University of Washington and Oregon Health and Science University. His hospital positions were diverse starting with Children’s Orthopedic Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle; Harborview Medical Center, Seattle; Oregon Health & Sciences University, Portland; including Doernbecher Childrens Hospital, Portland. Jerry has distinguished himself as a respected medical professional by his peers. He is married to his wife Linda and they have three children, Wayne, Todd and Jill.
