Long as an outstanding athlete in three sports: football, basketball, and baseball. His coach felt that Bob was one of the truly great basketball guards to play for him and was a varsity starter three years.  The basketball team went to the state tournament all three years Bob attended R.A. Long and he was a starting guard in all of those tournaments.  Bob played football and baseball in his juniorand senior years.  After high school Bob went to the University of Oregon and played basketball his freshman year and was on the varsity team his sophomore year.  In 1955 instead of continuing with college Bob joined the Navy and was discharged in 1957.  After he was discharged he decided to continue his college education at the University of Washington and graduated in 1961.  He started teaching in the Seattle School District as a Special Education teacher with high school age students in 1962.  He retired from teaching in 1996 as a Vocational Counselor after 34 years.  Bob married Lois Hendricksen from the class of 1955, they have three children who are teachers and a principal in the Seattle area.
