Amanda grew up as the youngest of five children, born in Michigan and moved to Longview prior to starting the 9th grade.  In Amanda’s words she has played sports her whole life – from pick-up basketball with the boys in my neighborhood starting when she was 6 years old, to ice skating, flag football (she was the only girl on the team, but was the quarterback and the kicker), soccer, baseball (again the only girl on the team), softball, volleyball, tennis, and track.  Pretty much any sport she could do, whether on a team or just in the neighborhood, she was all over it.  As a player on a select basketball team of girls from all over Western Washington, she was chosen as a BCI (Basketball Congress International) Tournament Honorable Mention all-American and a Super Socco International Tournament All-Star (B.C. Canada).  Amanda lettered in basketball, volleyball and track each year of high school.  She placed at State in javelin, 4th as a sophomore, 8th as junior and 5th as a senior.  She won the RAL Freshman and Varsity pentathlons and held the record and received the MVP award as a junior. The volleyball team placed 5th in state her senior year and she was the leading blocker for that year.  She was named the Daily News female Basketball Player of the year for the 1992-93 season.  Her R.A. Long basketball Jersey #33 was officially retired, in 1994.  High school was just Amanda’s warming up period.  She also received school, league and state academic awards for each sport.  In addition Amanda found time to participate in many of the extra-curricular activities while in high school.  She was awarded the David Sari award and scholarship upon graduation from R.A. Long.   At Whitman College in Walla Walla, she was a track and basketball superstar.  As a forward she was a four-year starter and was named second-team all NW Conference as a freshman, sophomore and junior.  Amanda finished her Whitman basketball career as its third all-time leading scorer.  She’s etched in the school’s all-time Top 10 stats in 3-point field-goal percentage, field-goal percentage, rebounding and steals.  Amanda also threw the javelin.  She was four-time NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships competitor tossing the spear.  For three years, she finished in the top four: 3rd as a freshman, 2nd as a sophomore and 4th as a junior.  She set the school record as a senior.  Amanda was awarded the Mignon Borleske Athletic Trophy, which honor the top female student-athlete at the school.  She graduated with a BA in English and went on to Seattle Pacific  University School of Law and graduated Cum Laude from there in 2002.  Currently she practices law as an Assistant City Attorney and resides in Western Washington.  She is married to Brian Harvey and has two children Anna 11 and Boden 9, whom she says are her proudest achievement.
