The 1974-75 wrestling team was one of R.A. Long’s finest.  The team led by R.A. Long grad and legend Fred Kalal, finished 7th at the state meet held in Vancouver, Washington. The Jacks had many experienced wrestlers on the squad.

At the state meet, sophomore Richard Medeiros took home the first place trophy at 101 pounds by defeating a wrestler from Sumner in the finals. Richard’s brother Raleigh,  a senior, placed second at 115 pounds. Another pair outstanding wrestling brothers at R.A. Long, twins Randy and Ron Winegar brought home trophies as well. Ron placed sixth at 168 and Randy sixth at 178 pounds.

Leading up to the state tourney, R.A. Long took third place at the sub regionals held in Camas. Randy Winiger took home a first place trophy. R.A. L. qualified twelve wrestlers to AA regionals held at Timberline high school in Olympia. At regionals, Richard Medeiros was first at 101. He defeated the defending state champ from Chehalis in the finals. Raleigh Medeiros and Randy Winiger placed second at 115 and 178 respectively. Ron Winiger was  third at 168 and Dennis Higgins fourth at 108 pounds. The Medeiros and Winiger brothers, as well as Dennis Higgins made the trip to the state tournament.
